Columbus, GA Engagement Photographer William & Sarah Engaged

This is the story as I know it from Sarah. William and Sarah met while Sarah was attending CSU's Schwob School of Music several years ago, but as fate would have it, music was not in Sarah's future. Sarah realized that quickly that her love was in pastries and cake making so with this realization it soon hit her that she would have to leave Columbus to attend Pastry Chef school in Atlanta. The thought of leaving William worried her, but knew their love was more than any other she had ever known. Upon telling William of her plans, William asked if she was breaking up with him. She said "no" to which he replied, "then will you marry me?" It was that moment that their love was meant to be and fast forward 1 1/2 years later their 200 mile separation has almost come to an end. Sarah will be graduating in the fall and moving back to Columbus to be with William and plan their wedding/future.

Sarah was adamant that their shoot include three significant places. First up was the beautiful Lake Bottom Park. This was where they had their first date...a picnic.

Up next is the CSU's Rankin Arts Center in Uptown Columbus where they first met and spent so much time together.

I grabbed a few head shots.

Finally, the Columbus side Riverwalk...scene of their engagement.

Let me know your favorite shot.

Thank you, William and Sarah, for allowing me to shoot your engagement shots!

Columbus, GA Photographer Relay for Life giveaway

I am amazed quite regularly how many lives are affected by cancer, and never did I think I would be one of them. But that day happened and I will never forget when the news came. In 2006, my dad began to experience symptoms and was diagnosed just a few months later with Stage IV Colon Cancer with spots on his liver. He courageously battled this terrifying disease for 2 1/2 years before succumbing to it in November 2008. His legacy lives on through his wife of 44 years, four children and six grandchildren who miss him dearly.

It is in his honor that I participate in the American Cancer Society: Relay for Life, an amazing organization that is dedicated to curing this disease. This year I have decided to give away a portrait session, CD with all of the pictures, and free 8X10 print ($150 value). Tickets are just $1 or 6 tickets for $5. The drawing date has not been decided at this point, but will be done before the Relay event on May 15, 2010. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket(s), please email me at beckyhuffphotography@gmail.com for more details.

It is my prayer that one day a cure will be found for this disease and if I can do a small part in making that happen I am all for it.

Columbus, GA Photographer Personal but a bit about business

Trepidation....a word that strikes most people when starting a new job or speaking in front of an audience. For me, this almost always hits me post photo session when it is time to review the images on the big screen (my macbook pro :) ). There is this constant struggle within that is a self doubter. I hear most photographers and even the most experienced photographer struggle with is their work good enough. It is extremely important that I please the customer as well as create inspiring work as this is almost always my most important marketing tool. This is my perfectionist side coming out and I realize this fully. I am, by nature,a people pleaser and almost always have been so when I hear the client gush over my work it gives me great satisfaction and reinforcement that my work is worthy.

Now onto my other problem and can be summed up in one word. Procrastination! I hate this part of me and so does my husband. In fact, I have 20 page paper that has been staring at me all semester long and I only have 6 more weeks to write it and 2 weeks after that to refine it. There are other things I procrastinate at and that is something I must reign in for business purposes. One of these days I am going to sit down and make a to do list to help conquer some of these fears and to HOPEFULLY reduce my procrastination side.

I think both of the words are a self-realization that we must all take stock of from time to time. I want my business to grow and be successful and doing a bit of self-realization from time to time cannot hurt. NOW I need to do something about it. :-)

Talk to you soon!

Columbus, GA Portrait Photographer Aaliyah 9 month Sneak Peak

As promised here is the full review of Aaliyah's nine month photo session. This little one wanted very little to do with the camera and more about the pine straw and rocks on the ground. Despite of this, we did get some great shots.

Big sister Mikayla got in a few of the pictures. Mikayla has the most beautiful hair that I was incredibly jealous of.

What a grin....lovin' it!!!

Two shots of Mikayla that I threw in. I just loved how she dotes on her little sister. What a beauty!!

Columbus, GA Portrait Photographer Aaliyah 9 month Sneak Peak

Yesterday, I did a retake on a photo session I did back in December with baby Aaliyah. So we headed to Flat Rock Park yesterday afternoon and here is a sneak peak. I am not convinced I can photograph babies yet, but I'm not giving up yet. It was quite difficult to keep her attention because she was a lot more interested in playing with dirt and pine straw. I will post more pictures later this week.
